Do not wait until it’s full
Ask me underneath just a slice of the moon
It’s all I need
…
I don’t know how to say this, but I’m happy you left me. For I have learned there is something in me that does not leave when it comes to the matters of love. This is a tricky dance, you see. Because what you, what I, what each of us holds as the definition of love, each definition is— different. So, in the past, my history, I have learned I have stayed for matters much less than love. Matters of attachment, matters of familiarity, of routine. Of pains that felt like safety, like comfort. I am not sure if this will make sense to you.
I am curious by the word. Attachment. Our culture is so obsessed with it. Co-dependency, dependency. Interdependency. individualized. Then I look to the South and wonder— // “What if you had no choice but to depend on another?”// and yet all suffering is caused by attachment, Buddhists remind me. And yet, here you are— a soul attached to this body.
And I wonder, I think. What a mighty fine balance. For isn’t. Isn’t that what this experience is all about? At least a piece of the pie. To have a body that is an extension of the soul. vice versa. To have each choice be a stretching and not a shrinking. How to stay awake for every choice, to not fall asleep at the wheel. // “Do you want to be the passenger or the driver?”//
…
If I told you I love you, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for it to sound so plain.
I meant for you to pick it up and slather it smoothly
feel its crunchy texture before swallowing it whole.
